Where can you play basketball in Mexico? There is no official census of courts, so this guide counts what is recorded in our directory and ranks it by city and by state. Today the directory records 1,174 basketball places, and Ciudad de México leads the list with 99.
The figures come from the same calculations the basketball-by-city pages use, so if you open one you will see the same number. They are minimums: especially in parks and schools there are more courts than anyone has mapped. If you want the rules, start with our guide to the basic rules of basketball.
What you need to play basketball
Basketball needs a flat surface and rims 3.05 metres above the floor. A FIBA regulation court measures 28 by 15 metres, but a great deal of basketball is played on a half court with a single hoop, and 3x3 is played exactly that way.
Outdoor courts are usually concrete or asphalt, and indoor ones wooden floor or another sports surface. What changes the game is the condition of the place: rims without nets, a wet floor, or no light if you play at night.
You only need a ball and shoes with good grip. The rules, the clock and the fouls are in the guide to the basic rules of basketball, which we link at the end.
How to read these numbers
We count two things separately. A place is a club, sports centre or park with at least one basketball court; a court is each individual court recorded. Sometimes a place is recorded without anyone knowing how many courts it has, so the courts counted are a minimum and can be fewer than the places. It is not an inventory: it counts what someone has mapped or published.
The data is as of September 25, 2026. It comes from OpenStreetMap, the open map its contributors edit, and from public sources we research place by place, each with its link. They are not clubs verified by MeetAndPlay. We only link cities and states that have at least one place with its own page.
The cities with the most places
Across Mexico the directory records 1,174 basketball places in 388 cities in 32 states, with at least 1,757 courts counted. Each city in the list links to its page, with the places and a map.

Public and private courts: what the directory says
Many of the basketball courts recorded are in parks, schools and sports grounds, not private clubs. We only say access is free when the data confirms it: each place's page shows whether the source marks it that way, and where there is no data, we do not claim it.
Nor do we know the state of the rims and nets, and lighting appears only where it is recorded. A public court may have hours of use, leagues or schools that take it over. The figures are minimums.
How to use this guide
- Look in your city and the neighbouring ones. Metropolitan areas are split across several directory cities, and the nearest court may be in the next one.
- Compare places and courts. A place with a single court is not the same as a centre with several.
- Call before you go. Hours, prices and availability change, and the directory does not guarantee them.
- If a place is missing, tell us. You can ask for it to be added; we only list what has a source.
How to find courts in your city
Each city and state in the lists links to its basketball page, with the places, a map and nearby cities. MeetAndPlay is a directory, not a booking service: to reserve an hour you go straight to the place. For basketball we offer no partner search, levels or open games; we only show where the courts are.
In short
As of September 25, 2026, the cities with the most basketball places in our directory are Ciudad de México, Guadalajara, and Zapopan. The figures are minimums and are recalculated whenever the directory is updated. Use them to decide where to start looking, and confirm with the place before you go.
