What's your padel level? Take the test in 2 minutesIn this guide
Padel on this coast is not only a Cancún thing. Playa del Carmen and Tulum both have padel clubs, fewer than Cancún, and much of what is public about them lives on Instagram pages and booking apps. This guide gathers what our directory holds for the two towns, club by club, and is honest about the gaps: where we have no court count or no record of a roof, it says so rather than guessing. The rest is the practical side for a traveller: the heat, the hours, booking, and how to get a game of four together when you arrive on your own.
What our directory lists
- Playa del Carmen: 8 places with padel; 2 of them with a court count on record, adding up to 8 padel courts.
- Tulum: 3 places with padel; 2 of them with a court count on record, adding up to 8 padel courts.
These are minimums. Several clubs publish no court count we could source, so the totals only add what is on record. Clubs open, close and add courts; confirm with the club before you travel to it.

Covered courts and the heat
This is the same Caribbean coast as Cancún: heat and humidity that bite from mid-morning between May and September, afternoon downpours in the rainy season, and the Atlantic hurricane season from June to November, when clubs close or reschedule if there is a storm warning. A roof matters for both the sun and the rain.
On record with covered or indoor padel courts: Heat Padel & Pickleball and Alamo Padel Club.
For the other 9 places we have no record of a roof either way. Ask before booking a midday or afternoon slot, and assume open-air until the club says otherwise.
When to play
Early morning and after sunset are the comfortable hours, and also the ones local players want, so book them first. Midday is for covered courts or for players already used to the heat; if you have just arrived from somewhere cooler, give yourself a couple of days before playing hard.
Hours are the club's own and change by day and season. We only show them where a club's opening hours are on record; for everyone else, check the club's own channel before you set off.
Finding a game when you travel alone
Padel needs four, and a visitor rarely arrives with three friends who play. On MeetAndPlay you can join an open match that someone has already posted, or book a court and post your own with the time, the club and the level range, so players of a similar level can fill the places. The button at the end of this guide opens the app on Playa del Carmen's matches; change the city in the app's filter for Tulum.
With fewer clubs than Cancún, post a few days ahead rather than on the day, and state your level honestly on the app's 0 to 7 scale so the match is even. Asking at the club whether it runs open sessions, retas or americanas, where you turn up alone and get paired, is the other route.
Booking
Each club books its own way: through an app, over WhatsApp or Instagram messages, or by phone. The list above shows which channels each place has on record, and those are the ones to try first.
We do not quote prices: none are on record for these clubs. Ask how much and for how long, whether lights cost extra in the evening, whether rackets can be rented, and what happens if it rains. In high season, from December to April and in the summer and Easter holidays, book evenings and weekends several days ahead.
What to bring
- Proper court shoes. Running shoes are not made for padel's sideways movement.
- Your racket if it travels well, or ask the club ahead whether it rents one.
- Sun protection and plenty of water. A cap, sweat-resistant sunscreen and more water than you think you need.
- A small towel for the grip: humidity and sweat make a racket slippery.
Staying between the two, or near Cancún?
Cancún has more padel clubs and courts than either town, including covered courts. If your trip includes a few days there, our visitor's guide to padel in Cancún lists every club by distance from the Hotel Zone, with roofs and opening hours.
In short
Playa del Carmen and Tulum both have padel, in smaller numbers than Cancún. Pick a club from the lists above, ask about the roof if you want to play outside the cool hours, confirm hours and price directly with the club, and post or join an open match a few days ahead to get four players together.
