Cancún has more padel than most visitors expect, but most of it is not where visitors sleep. The clubs sit in the city itself, around Puerto Cancún at the northern end of the Hotel Zone and out in Costa Mujeres, rather than along the beach strip where most hotels are. This guide answers what a traveller actually asks: which club is close, which courts have a roof against the heat and the rain, when you can play, and how to find three other players if you came alone. Every figure below comes from the club records behind our Cancún pages.

The short answer

Of the clubs we can place on a map, Utopía Padel Cancún is the closest padel club to the Hotel Zone: about 7 km in a straight line from the zone's reference point, with 7 padel courts, all covered or indoor.

Across Cancún and Costa Mujeres we list 11 clubs with padel and 65 padel courts in total; 4 of those clubs have at least one covered or indoor court.

Every padel club, nearest the Hotel Zone first

The distances are straight lines from each club's map pin to an approximate centre of each zone, rounded to whole kilometres. They are not driving times: crossing the city at rush hour takes far longer than the kilometres suggest. Use them to compare clubs, then check the route from your hotel.

We have no map pin for Padel Club Cancún (Calle Laureles, Álamos II / Av. Huayacán, 77560 Cancún) and Puerto Cancún Padel (Av. Bonampak Mz 27, Calle Puerto Acapulco L-1-02, 77500 Cancún), so the table gives no distance for them; their recorded addresses are the best guide.

Zone by zone

The same distances, read from the three places a visitor is most likely to start from:

  • Closest to the Hotel Zone: Utopía Padel Cancún (≈ 7 km), Prime Padel Arena Cancún (≈ 10 km), and Journey Padel Arena Cancún (≈ 10 km).
  • Closest to downtown (Centro): Sportres MX (≈ 4 km), Journey Padel Arena Cancún (≈ 4 km), and Utopía Padel Cancún (≈ 5 km).
  • Closest to Puerto Juárez, on the way to Costa Mujeres: Utopía Padel Cancún (≈ 3 km) and Journey Padel Arena Cancún (≈ 8 km).

North of the city, in Costa Mujeres, Rafa Nadal Tennis Center Costa Mujeres has opening hours on record from 08:00 to 20:00. It is the obvious choice if you are staying on that resort strip, and well north of every other club on this list.

Covered or open-air: it matters here

Between May and September the heat bites from mid-morning, and in the rainy season afternoon downpours are common. A roof solves both, so the roof column is the one to read first. The clubs with covered or indoor padel courts on record:

  • Every padel court covered or indoor: Utopía Padel Cancún, Prime Padel Arena Cancún, and The Court.
  • Some covered, some open-air: Journey Padel Arena Cancún (20 covered, 4 open-air).

Every other club in the table is open-air, or has no roof on record; for those, ask the club.

Covered courts are the ones that fill first when the sky looks doubtful, so book them further ahead. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November; if there is a storm warning, clubs close or reschedule, roof or not.

When to play in the heat

The comfortable hours are early morning and after sunset, and they are also the most requested. What the clubs' recorded opening hours allow:

  • Open from 06:00 or earlier, at least on some days: Journey Padel Arena Cancún (06:00), One Padel Cumbres (06:00), Padel Sport Huayacán (06:00), Sportres MX (06:00), and Zona 5 Padel Club (06:00).
  • Open until 23:00 or later, at least on some days: Utopía Padel Cancún (23:30), Journey Padel Arena Cancún (midnight), One Padel Cumbres (23:00), Padel Sport Huayacán (23:00), The Court (23:30), and Sportres MX (midnight).
  • Closes before 21:00: Rafa Nadal Tennis Center Costa Mujeres (20:00), so no late evening there.
  • Hours not recorded: Prime Padel Arena Cancún, Padel Club Cancún, and Puerto Cancún Padel; ask before you go.

Hours vary by day, and Sunday can be much shorter, so check the club's page before planning a late slot. Midday on an open-air court in summer is only for the acclimatised: if you come from somewhere cooler, give yourself a couple of days before playing hard.

Travelling alone? How to find a game

Padel is played in fours, which is the one real obstacle for a solo traveller. The quickest fix is an open match: on MeetAndPlay a player posts a match with the club, the time and the level range, and anyone of a similar level can join. You can join one already posted in Cancún, or book a court and post your own so local players fill the other three places. The button at the end of this guide opens the app straight on Cancún's matches.

Say your level honestly. MeetAndPlay uses a 0 to 7 scale; if you are unsure, our guide to playing levels explains where you fit, and a slightly cautious guess makes for a better match than an optimistic one. A reta is the local word for a casual open match, and you will see it used for open games and for the club-run sessions where you turn up alone and get paired.

Two habits help a visitor more than anything else: post a few days ahead rather than on the day, and agree before playing how the court fee is split, because the four of you have only just met.

What to bring

Pack the things that are hard to sort out at the court:

  • Padel shoes, or at least court shoes. Running shoes are not built for padel's sideways movement; our guide to padel, tennis and pickleball shoes explains what to look for.
  • Sun and sweat protection. A cap or visor, sweat-resistant sunscreen for open-air courts, and a small towel for the grip.
  • More water than you think. The humidity makes you sweat more than the thermometer suggests.
  • Your racket, if it travels well. If not, see below.

If you would rather not travel with a racket, these clubs list equipment rental in our records: Padel Sport Huayacán, The Court, and Sportres MX. Confirm with the club that a racket is available at your time, and ask whether they sell balls.

How booking works

9 of the clubs above book through Playtomic (Utopía Padel Cancún, Prime Padel Arena Cancún, Journey Padel Arena Cancún, One Padel Cumbres, Padel Sport Huayacán, The Court, Sportres MX, Zona 5 Padel Club, and Rafa Nadal Tennis Center Costa Mujeres). Padel Club Cancún books over WhatsApp. For Puerto Cancún Padel, the online booking button did not work when we checked, so phone or message the club.

None of the clubs we checked published an hourly rate online, so there are no prices here: ask how much, for how long, whether lighting is included and what happens if it rains. In high season, from December to April and in the summer and Easter holidays, book evenings and weekends several days ahead and keep the confirmation with the day, time and court number.

In short

Pick the club by where you sleep and by its roof, not by its name: the table above does both. Play early or after dark, book covered courts first in the rainy season, bring proper shoes and plenty of water, and if you are travelling alone, post or join an open match a few days ahead.
