What's your padel level? Take the test in 2 minutesIn this guide
If you are staying in Cancún's Hotel Zone or along the Riviera Maya and want to play padel, tennis or pickleball, you hit the same question fast: where, and how far from the hotel? This guide answers with what we actually have on record. It gathers the venues in our directory for Cancún, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, orders them by straight-line distance from the Hotel Zone where they have a location, and closes with practical visitor advice: heat, rackets and paddles, hours and booking manners. We give no prices and no opening hours because we have not verified them, and we say nothing about any particular hotel.
What our records show
Across the five towns in this guide the directory lists 25 venues with padel, 16 with tennis and 18 with pickleball. A venue with several sports counts in each, and the figures are minimums: they only add what we have managed to record. Venues open, close and change, so confirm with the venue before you go.
On the hotel strip itself
Cancún's specialist clubs are mostly off the beach strip. What the strip does have is tennis: OpenStreetMap contributors mapped 28 tennis sites labelled Zona Hotelera, with 44 courts between them. The map does not say who runs them or whether an outside visitor may play, so we do not present them as bookable clubs. If you are staying on the strip, your first question is at reception.
The pinned club nearest the Hotel Zone reference point is Utopía Padel Cancún, about 7 km away in a straight line; by road the trip is longer.
Clubs near the Hotel Zone, by distance
We measure in a straight line from the club's own location to an approximate Hotel Zone reference point that we chose, rounded to whole kilometres. It is not a travel time: traffic, bridges and detours change it.

Courts tied to hotels and resorts
Our directory also records courts at places whose name is a hotel or resort. They are:
- Club Med Cancún: pickleball (10 courts) (Cancún)
- Kempinski Hotel Cancún: tennis, pickleball (2 courts) (Cancún)
- Moon Palace Cancún: pickleball (Cancún)
- The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort: tennis (2 courts) (Cancún)
- Mayakoba Sports Club: padel (1 court), tennis (3 courts), pickleball (3 courts) (Playa del Carmen)
We do not have on record whether these courts accept people who are not staying there, or under what rules. Ask the hotel itself before counting on them.
Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum
South of Cancún the options are spread across towns. For each one we give the straight-line distance between the Hotel Zone reference point and the town centre, then the venues on record, with their distance to the town centre where they have a location.
Puerto Morelos (town centre about 34 km in a straight line from Cancún's Hotel Zone)
- Pirates Pickleball Club of Puerto Morelos: pickleball
Playa del Carmen (town centre about 66 km in a straight line from Cancún's Hotel Zone)

- Playa del Carmen Pickleball Club: pickleball (6 courts)
- Puerto Aventuras Central Park Pickleball Courts: pickleball
- Xmash Padel Family Club: padel
Tulum (town centre about 113 km in a straight line from Cancún's Hotel Zone)

- Aldea Racquet Club: padel, tennis, pickleball
- Jungle Padel Tulum: padel (4 courts)
- Ola Pickleball: pickleball
- Tulum Padel Social Club: padel (4 courts), pickleball (2 courts)
Most venues on the southern coast have no location in our records, which is why many carry no distance. Plan the trip with your hotel, not with these figures.
Heat, humidity and the best hours
The Mexican Caribbean's heat and humidity feel stronger than the thermometer says. From May to September they bite from mid-morning, and in the rainy season afternoon downpours are common. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November: if you travel then, check the weather service's notices and leave slack in your plan.
The working rule is to play early or at night. A covered or shaded court changes a midday game a lot, and when it rains the covered ones fill up first. Drink before you feel thirsty, wear a cap or visor and sweat-resistant sunscreen, and do not be shy about cutting a match short if you feel dizzy.
Rackets and paddles: bring or rent
Padel is played with a racket, pickleball with a paddle and tennis with a racket too, and all three are hard to sort out once you are at the court. If you own one, carry it in your hand luggage so it is not knocked about, together with your court shoes. If not, ask before you go whether the venue rents equipment and sells balls, and whether it charges extra.
Among the venues in this guide, the records of these clubs list equipment rental: Padel Sport Huayacán, The Court, and Sportres MX. For the rest we do not have the detail, which does not mean they do not rent.
If you plan to buy before the trip, our guides to choosing a padel racket and a tennis racket help you decide, and the shoe guide explains which sole to look for in each sport.
How booking works for a tourist
Each venue holds slots its own way: a booking app, WhatsApp, phone or reception, and sometimes more than one. MeetAndPlay does not take bookings at these venues; you arrange the court with the club itself. In high season, which includes December to April, the summer holidays and Easter week, ask for evenings and weekends several days ahead. Do not treat a booking as done until you have a confirmation with the day, time and court number, and keep it in writing.
Booking and playing manners
Arrive ten minutes early and tell the club if you will be late; the court clock runs from the booked time. If you cannot make it, cancel as early as you can, because evening slots are exactly the ones other people want. Agree before playing who books and how each person pays their share, especially if the group is made of people you have just met. Wear shoes suited to the surface, pick up your balls and bottles, and greet the other pair at the start and the end. If the venue has dress or access rules, follow them without argument.
If you travel without anyone to play with
Having a court without four players is the most common problem for travellers. On MeetAndPlay you can post an open match with the venue, the time and your level so local players of a similar level can join. State your level honestly so the match is even, and ask the club whether it runs retas or americanas, where you turn up alone and get paired.
For anyone who looks after guests
If you work at a hotel, resort or concierge desk and your guests ask where to play, you are welcome to link this guide from your site or your welcome email. At the bottom of this page there is a ready-to-copy snippet whose only link text is the brand name. This guide does not replace what your hotel knows about its own courts: if the hotel has a court, tell your guest yourself, because we do not speak for any hotel.
In short
The hotel strip has tennis on the map, but the padel, tennis and pickleball clubs are mostly several kilometres away, and the Riviera Maya spreads its offer across towns. Play early or at night, bring your equipment or ask about it, book ahead and confirm in writing.
Frequently asked questions
- Are there padel courts inside Cancún's Hotel Zone?
- In our records Cancún's padel clubs sit outside the hotel strip, a few kilometres away in a straight line. The guide orders them by distance. Some hotels may have a court of their own, but we have verified none: ask at reception.
- How many places to play does the directory list in the area?
- Across Cancún, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum we list 25 venues with padel, 16 with tennis and 18 with pickleball. These are minimums and can change.
- Can I rent a racket or paddle?
- It depends on the venue. Ask before you go whether it rents equipment and whether it charges extra. This guide notes which clubs have rental on record; for the rest we do not have the detail.
- What time suits playing in the heat?
- Early in the morning or at night. Midday only makes sense on covered or shaded courts, and in the rainy season the covered ones fill up first.
