In this guide

If you are searching for where to play pickleball in Cancún, the honest answer is: in a growing number of places, but few of them publish much. Pickleball here lives in racket clubs, sports complexes, resorts and community groups, and a lot of it is announced on Instagram. This guide lists every place with pickleball in our records across Cancún and the Riviera Maya, says what we know about each, and says plainly what we do not. The rest is practical: the heat, how to book, what to bring and how to get a game when you arrive without a partner.

What our records show

  • Cancún: 9 places with pickleball; 7 of them with a court count on record, adding up to 24 pickleball courts.
  • Isla Mujeres: 1 places with pickleball; 1 of them with a court count on record, adding up to 3 pickleball courts.
  • Puerto Morelos: 1 places with pickleball; 0 of them with a court count on record, adding up to 0 pickleball courts.
  • Playa del Carmen: 5 places with pickleball; 4 of them with a court count on record, adding up to 14 pickleball courts.
  • Tulum: 3 places with pickleball; 1 of them with a court count on record, adding up to 2 pickleball courts.

These are minimums: several places publish no court count we could source, so totals only add what is on record. Venues open, close and change; confirm with the venue before you travel to it. Some of the places below are hotels or resorts: ask whether non-guests can play.

Playing pickleball in the Caribbean heat

Heat and humidity bite from mid-morning between May and September, afternoon downpours are common in the rainy season, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, when venues close or reschedule if there is a storm warning. Most pickleball courts here are open air, so the sun decides your schedule.

Play early in the morning or after the sun drops, drink more water than you think you need, wear a cap and sweat-resistant sunscreen, and rest in the shade between games. If you have just arrived from somewhere cooler, give yourself a couple of days before playing hard. Where the roof is not on record, ask before booking a midday or afternoon slot.

How to book and what it costs

Every venue handles it differently: some take bookings through an app or website, others over WhatsApp or Instagram messages or by phone, and some resorts run pickleball only for guests or by schedule. The list above shows which channels each place has on record; try those first. You do not need a Mexican phone number: WhatsApp and Instagram work with a foreign number if you write the country code, and a written confirmation is as good as a call. If a booking app asks for a local number, message or call the club instead.

We do not quote prices: none are on record for these venues. Ask how much and for how long, whether lights cost extra in the evening, whether paddles and balls are lent or rented, and what happens if it rains. In high season, from December to April and in the summer and Easter holidays, book evenings and weekends several days ahead. Prices are normally quoted in pesos. Ask whether the club also takes US dollars or foreign cards; if a card terminal offers to charge you in dollars, paying in pesos usually avoids a poor exchange rate.

What to bring

  • Court or tennis shoes with lateral grip. Running shoes slide on the court's quick side-to-side movements.
  • Your paddle if it travels well, or ask the venue ahead whether it lends or rents one. Many people try the sport with a borrowed paddle.
  • Sun protection and plenty of water. A cap, sunscreen and more water than you think you need.
  • A small towel for the handle: humidity and sweat make a paddle slippery.

Travelling without a partner: how to find a game

Pickleball is usually played in doubles, but it is one of the easiest sports to join on your own: groups rotate partners, and regulars tend to welcome beginners. On MeetAndPlay you can join an open match someone has already posted, or post your own with the venue, the time and the level range so players of a similar level can fill the places. The button at the end of this guide opens the app on Cancún's matches; change the city in the app's filter for Playa del Carmen or Tulum.

If you are new, say so, and state your level honestly on the app's 0 to 7 scale so the match is even. Post a few days ahead rather than on the day, and ask the venue whether it runs open play, retas or americanas where you turn up alone and get paired.

Padel as well?

Several racket venues here mix sports. If your group wants padel too, our visitor's guide to padel in Cancún lists the clubs by distance from the Hotel Zone, and the guide to padel in Playa del Carmen and Tulum covers the Riviera Maya.

In short

Pickleball in Cancún and the Riviera Maya is spread across a handful of racket clubs, sports complexes and resorts. Pick a venue from the lists above, confirm hours, price and whether you can play as a non-guest directly with the venue, avoid the midday sun, and join or post an open match to get a game going.
