How many padel courts are there in Mexico, which states have most of them and what does an hour on court cost? This page gathers the figures reporters, bloggers and clubs ask us for most, each one with its source and its date. They are not market estimates: they are counts of what is recorded, computed by the same code as our data pages.

The key figures, ready to quote

  • 568 places with padel recorded in Mexico as of October 22, 2026, across 129 cities.
  • 833 padel courts counted at those places; on average 1.5 courts per place, with the counts we have.
  • At least one place with padel is recorded in every one of Mexico's 32 states.
  • Ciudad de México leads both as a state and as a city, with 46 places with padel.
  • The top three states, Ciudad de México, Jalisco, and Guanajuato, hold 23% of every place with padel in the country; the top five cities, 25%.
  • Nationally there are 4.5 places with padel per million residents; the state with the highest rate is Quintana Roo, at 14.5.
  • For every place with padel there are 2.1 with tennis, and padel makes up 30% of the padel, tennis and pickleball places combined.
  • Across 8 cities with published rates, the cheapest 90-minute slot runs from a median of MXN 475 in Guadalajara to MXN 700 in Cancún.

Where each number comes from

The place and court figures come from the MeetAndPlay directory as of October 22, 2026: open OpenStreetMap data plus the clubs we researched one by one in public sources (the source list is at meetandplay.mx/metodologia). A place is a club, sports centre or park with at least one padel court; a court is each individual court someone recorded. They are minimums: a club can exist without being recorded, and a place can be recorded without anyone knowing how many courts it has.

Per-resident rates use the population per state from INEGI's 2020 Census. We only give a rate to states with 10 or more places with padel; with two or three clubs, a small state would come out on top by pure chance.

Padel by city

The ten cities with the most recorded places with padel as of October 22, 2026:

  • 1. Ciudad de México (Ciudad de México): 46 places · 69 courts counted
  • 2. Querétaro (Querétaro): 28 places · 23 courts counted
  • 3. Zapopan (Jalisco): 24 places · 72 courts counted
  • 4. Mérida (Yucatán): 22 places · 27 courts counted
  • 5. San Luis Potosí (San Luis Potosí): 20 places · 23 courts counted
  • 6. León (Guanajuato): 19 places · 14 courts counted
  • 7. Chihuahua (Chihuahua): 16 places · 17 courts counted

  • 9. Puebla (Puebla): 12 places · 22 courts counted
  • 10. Aguascalientes (Aguascalientes): 12 places · 1 court counted

Metropolitan areas are split over several municipalities: Zapopan and Guadalajara, or Monterrey, San Pedro Garza García and San Nicolás, count separately. If what you care about is the metro, add its cities up.

Padel against tennis and pickleball

With the same directory and the same date, padel has 568 recorded places, tennis 1,173 and pickleball 153. There are 3.7 places with padel for every one with pickleball. Tennis has sat in public parks and sports centres for decades, many with several courts; padel grew mostly in private clubs built in recent years, and pickleball is only starting to get courts of its own.

The open-map gap

In OpenStreetMap alone, without the clubs we researched, there are 51 places with padel (snapshot of September 25, 2026); the open map holds 9% of what the full directory records today. As an outside reference, the International Padel Federation published in 2025 that Mexico has 2,300 courts and over 630 clubs; our 833 counted courts are 36% of that figure. It is a directional comparison: we do not audit the federation's figure and do not know how it was counted. On the ground, the 15 clubs in Cancún and the Riviera Maya we checked by hand have 72 padel courts between them. The full analysis is at meetandplay.mx/reporte-padel-mexico.

What it costs to rent a padel court

We read the rates 107 clubs publish in 8 cities, between October 8, 2026 and November 3, 2026. A city is only published with at least 3 priced clubs. The unit is the standard 90-minute booking of the whole court; each figure is the median across the city's clubs, from the dearest city to the cheapest:

  • 1. Cancún (8 clubs): MXN 700 at the cheap rate and MXN 900 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 467 an hour
  • 2. Querétaro (6 clubs): MXN 700 at the cheap rate and MXN 800 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 467 an hour
  • 3. Ciudad de México (23 clubs): MXN 625 at the cheap rate and MXN 1,050 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 417 an hour
  • 4. Monterrey (21 clubs): MXN 600 at the cheap rate and MXN 1,000 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 400 an hour
  • 5. Zapopan (27 clubs): MXN 600 at the cheap rate and MXN 850 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 400 an hour
  • 6. Mérida (6 clubs): MXN 500 at the cheap rate and MXN 840 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 333 an hour
  • 7. Puebla (4 clubs): MXN 495 at the cheap rate and MXN 675 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 330 an hour
  • 8. Guadalajara (12 clubs): MXN 475 at the cheap rate and MXN 825 at the dear one, ≈ MXN 316 an hour

Split four ways, the cheap 90-minute slot comes to about MXN 119 a person in Guadalajara and MXN 175 in Cancún. The lowest rate we saw was MXN 225 (in Zapopan) and the highest MXN 1,600 (in Cancún); rates move with peak hours and clubs change them without notice. The per-city data, with a CSV, is at meetandplay.mx/datos/precio-cancha-padel.

What these figures do not say

They do not say how many people play padel: no public source measures it rigorously, and the player numbers going around are industry estimates. Nor do they say which city plays most: a city with many well-mapped clubs ranks high even if another has the same following with fewer records.

How to cite these statistics
