When people talk about padel in Quintana Roo, almost everyone thinks of Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. But the south of the state has players too. Bacalar, with its lagoon, and Chetumal, the state capital, have a small offer with only a few clubs, so it pays to arrive with information rather than assumptions. This guide gathers what we know, says plainly what we do not, and gives you a method for setting up a game if you are passing through the south.

What we know about padel in southern Quintana Roo

Our records, checked in October 2026, list one place with padel in Bacalar and two in Chetumal. That is a small offer compared with the north of the state, where there are dozens of courts, and it is normal: padel grows first in the cities with the most tourism and population, and reaches the smaller ones later.

We do not print prices, hours or court counts for these places because we have not verified them, and a stale number in a guide costs you a wasted trip. What we do have are names and addresses you can look up and confirm yourself before leaving.

Padel in Bacalar

Bacalar lists The Padelito Club, at Avenida 20 number 213, with its own Instagram profile (@padelitobacalar) and a published contact phone. For a town this size, a club with a presence on social media is the best sign of activity.

In practice: Bacalar is a destination for nature and rest, not for big tournaments. If you play, it will most likely be a relaxed, mixed-level game with locals who play for fun. Write first on Instagram or call the club, ask whether a court is free the day you arrive and whether they lend rackets, because carrying gear on a lagoon trip is not always ideal.

Padel in Chetumal

We have two places with padel on record in Chetumal:

  • Club Campestre de Chetumal. A sports club with its own Facebook profile. Country clubs often have members and internal activities, so ask whether they accept visitors and how booking works.
  • Centro Deportivo CODEQ, at Heroico Colegio Militar 50, Barrio Bravo. It also has a Facebook page, which is where hours and changes tend to be posted.

Chetumal is a bigger and hotter city than many people imagine, with its own local life and a position next to the Belize border. If you live or work there you have a small but real padel community; if you are passing through, give notice ahead of time.

Getting there from Cancún

Both destinations are in the south of the state, several hours by road from Cancún: plan on a long drive of around four to five hours depending on traffic, where you start and your stops. That changes how you plan. A padel match alone does not justify a trip like that, but it can be a good part of a longer one.

If you go, some logistics tips:

  • Leave early. Arriving with daylight and no rush leaves time to book and to play in the cooler hours.
  • Book before you leave. In an area with few clubs, a busy court can mean no game at all.
  • Confirm the day before. A short message to the club avoids surprises from rain, events or maintenance.
  • Bring a plan B. If the club cannot host you, it helps to know where to play when you get back north; see our guides to where to play padel in Cancún or in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.

Heat, rain and the lagoon

Southern Quintana Roo is hot and humid almost all year, and the rainy season, with afternoon storms, runs roughly from June to October. For padel that matters. Open courts get wet, the floor turns slippery and the ball gets heavy; in midday sun, playing is extra effort.

What works: play first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon, carry enough water, wear light clothing and bring a cap for the breaks. For more on timing, see the guide to the best times to play padel in Mexico.

What to confirm before you go

With a small offer, one well-written message beats any search engine. Before leaving, confirm:

  • Whether the court is covered or open-air.
  • Whether they accept visitors and how booking works.
  • Which hours are available that day.
  • Whether they rent or lend rackets and balls.
  • Whether there are open matches or someone to play with, or whether you should bring your own partner.

The details in our directory come from public sources, and a club can change its hours, its phone or even close. If you see something different, the club is right.

How to set up a match if you know nobody

Padel is played by four, and that is the hard part when you are passing through. A few ideas:

  • Ask at the club. In small places, the person at the desk almost always knows who is looking for a partner.
  • Travel with your playing partner. If you go with someone who plays, one booked court solves everything.
  • Use the app. On MeetAndPlay you can see open matches and post one at your level for others to join. The offer in the south is smaller, but if you post early people will see it.
  • Ask about level. An even match is more fun than one where one side dominates; if you do not know yours, take the level test before you go.

And if it is your first match, review the basic rules of padel and the court measurements first: arriving knowing how to serve and when the wall can be used saves time and misunderstandings.

In short

Padel in Bacalar and Chetumal is small but real: one place in Bacalar and two in Chetumal on our records. Write ahead, book early, avoid the hottest hours and bring a plan B. To play closer to the coast, check the courts in Cancún.

When you want to play, open MeetAndPlay, find a match at your level and reserve your spot on court.
