Mexico City leads the ranking of racket-sport cities

Published on November 6, 2026

With 171 padel, tennis and pickleball venues, the capital tops an open ranking of 47 cities, ahead of Zapopan (61) and Cancún (55).

Cancún, November 6, 2026. Mexico City is the city with the most places to play padel, tennis or pickleball in the country: 171, according to the study «Mexico's top cities for racket sports», which MeetAndPlay publishes with the full table and a CSV download.

The ranking covers the 47 cities with at least 10 venues in MeetAndPlay's directory. Together they hold 1,211 of the 1,790 venues recorded nationwide, or 68%. After Mexico City come Zapopan, Jalisco (61), and Cancún, Quintana Roo (55); next are Mérida, Yucatán (51), and Chihuahua and Querétaro (44 each). The top three hold 24% of the venues in the ranked cities. Mexico City also leads in every sport: 122 venues with tennis, 46 with padel and 8 with pickleball.

The study also computes venues per 100,000 residents, using population from INEGI's 2020 Population and Housing Census. Among cities of more than 100,000 inhabitants, the highest rate is San Pedro's, with 18 venues for 132,169 residents: 13.6 per 100,000. Cancún has 6.0 and Mexico City 1.9, because its population, that of the whole entity, is the country's largest: 9,209,944 people.

The rate has a limit that MeetAndPlay puts in plain view. Small towns with many private or resort courts can show very high rates: Valle de Bravo, for example, has 35 venues for 61,590 residents, 56.8 per 100,000, which is why the densest-city headline only considers cities of at least 100,000 people. The table lists all of them.

There are other limits. The count is of venues, not courts, and it is a floor, not a census: new and private clubs are under-recorded. Quintana Roo, where the platform started, was reviewed by hand in more detail than the rest of the country, which may favor Cancún. The city is whatever the directory defines, which follows OpenStreetMap municipalities; Mexico City counts its 16 boroughs together. If a city's name does not match an INEGI municipio, its rate is left blank, never estimated. The study does not measure quality, price or occupancy.

The data come from MeetAndPlay's directory, which joins OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0 licence, snapshot of September 25, 2026) with venues researched from public sources cited one by one. Journalists, researchers and clubs can download the table and republish it citing the source and respecting the ODbL licence.

If a club or a journalist spots a missing venue or a detail that has changed, they can tell the press address and the directory is updated at the next review. Release by Equipo MeetAndPlay.
