MeetAndPlay opens its Mexico court map as open data

Published on November 5, 2026

1,052 places across all 32 states, under the open ODbL licence on GitHub, for journalists, researchers, clubs and developers.

Cancún, November 5, 2026. MeetAndPlay publishes its map of padel, tennis and pickleball courts in Mexico as open data: 1,052 places across all 32 states, under the open ODbL licence, at https://github.com/idimetrix/canchas-mexico. Anyone can download it, review it, improve it and use it in their own projects.

The dataset gathers the OpenStreetMap places that have a court for any of the three sports. There are 1,052 places in 255 cities, with 2,307 mapped courts. By sport, 1,005 places have tennis, 51 padel and 14 pickleball; the figures overlap because one place can offer more than one sport. The snapshot is dated September 25, 2026.

The picture the map gives is of a country where tennis has far more mapped infrastructure than padel and pickleball, and where much remains to be filled in. That is why it is published openly: a club that is missing, a court that changed its name or a wrong detail is fixed in OpenStreetMap, and anyone using the same data benefits from the improvement.

The data is from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors) and is published under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. It allows copying, distributing and adapting the data, as long as the source is credited and derived databases are shared under the same licence. The licence is at https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/.

The open map is only part of MeetAndPlay's directory, which also includes venues researched from public sources cited one by one that are not part of the ODbL set. The data page explains that difference along with the methodology and its limits: it is a floor, not a census, and new and private clubs are under-recorded.

Beyond the repository, MeetAndPlay gathers its studies and downloads at https://meetandplay.mx/en/datos: each state's courts-per-capita rate, with a CSV download, and a study of padel court prices by city. Each study states its source and date.

Journalists and data creators can cite the dataset as «MeetAndPlay, with data from OpenStreetMap». For questions about the data, write to the press address.

The repository serves three concrete uses. A journalist or researcher can look up how many courts there are in their state or city and cite an open source. A club can check whether it appears and, if not, add itself to OpenStreetMap. A developer can build on top without asking for access or paying for a licence, as long as the ODbL conditions are met. MeetAndPlay does not sell the dataset or tie it to any account.
