Quintana Roo leads Mexico in courts per capita

Published on November 5, 2026

With 10.8 padel, tennis and pickleball courts per 100,000 residents, Quintana Roo is over four times the national rate, an open study finds.

Cancún, November 5, 2026. Quintana Roo is the Mexican state with the most padel, tennis and pickleball courts per resident: 10.8 per 100,000 people, more than four times the national rate of 2.6. That is the result of the study «Courts per capita», which MeetAndPlay publishes today with a table of all 32 states and a CSV download.

The study adds up the 3,251 courts with a recorded count across 1,790 venues in MeetAndPlay's directory and divides them by the 126,014,024 residents counted by INEGI's 2020 Population and Housing Census. Quintana Roo has 200 courts at 116 venues for 1,857,985 residents: 33 padel, 126 tennis and 41 pickleball.

Quintana Roo ranks first (10.8), followed by Baja California Sur (8.9, with 71 courts) and Colima (8.9, with 65). Fourth and fifth are Baja California (5.7, with 213 courts) and Yucatán (5.1, with 118). Baja California has more courts in total than Quintana Roo, but almost twice the population: 3,769,020 people against 1,857,985.

The study carries a caveat that MeetAndPlay treats as part of the result. Quintana Roo, where the platform started, was reviewed by hand in more detail than the rest of the country, which may favor its position. The figure is also a floor, not a census: new and private clubs are under-recorded, and of the 1,790 venues, 623 do not publish how many courts they have, so they count as venues but add no courts. The full methodology is on the study page.

Courts come from MeetAndPlay's directory, which joins OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0 licence, snapshot of September 25, 2026) with venues researched from public sources cited one by one. Population is INEGI's. Journalists, researchers and clubs can download the table and republish it citing the source and respecting the ODbL licence.

The study is at https://meetandplay.mx/en/datos/canchas-por-habitante. MeetAndPlay's other studies and downloads are gathered at https://meetandplay.mx/en/datos.

MeetAndPlay starts in Cancún, in Quintana Roo, which is why it publishes the study with its limits in plain view: the intention is that the table can be reviewed, corrected and improved, not that it stands as a final ranking. If a club or a journalist spots a missing court or a detail that has changed, they can tell the press address and the directory is updated at the next review. The study also does not measure quality, price or occupancy, only how many courts there are and how many people live in each state.
