What's your padel level? Take the test in 2 minutesIn this guide
Padel in Cancún is played almost all year round, but not always at any hour. The midday sun heats the glass and the turf, and from June to October afternoon storms can stop a game on an open court within minutes. So one of the most common questions from anyone looking for a club is a simple one: where are the covered courts?
This guide answers from our own records. Of the 11 padel clubs we list in Cancún and Costa Mujeres, with 65 courts between them, 4 have courts under a roof: 35 courts, of which 23 are covered with open sides and 12 are fully indoor, inside a hall or a dome. The figures come from the same record each club shows on MeetAndPlay and can change: if a club adds or roofs courts, confirm with it before you go.
Covered or indoor: not the same thing
A covered court has a roof but keeps its sides open. It shields you from direct sun and from rain falling straight down, and it lets the air through, which in Cancún is welcome. In strong wind with sideways rain the edge of the court can still get wet, so in a serious storm play stops there too.
An indoor court is inside a building, a hall or a dome. It is the safest choice when the forecast is bad and the closest thing to indoor padel in other cities. Indoor does not mean air-conditioned: if that matters to you, ask the club, because it is not in our records.
Either way, a roof changes the game a little. Very high lobs can hit the structure, and each club has its own rule for a ball that touches the roof; usually the point goes to the player who did not hit it. Ask for the house rule before you start, so you do not argue about it mid-match.

- Utopía Padel Cancún: 7 of 7 padel courts (7 indoor). Latest published closing: 23:30.

Clubs with outdoor courts
The other 7 clubs in our records have open courts only: Zona 5 Padel Club, Padel Club Cancún, Puerto Cancún Padel, Padel Sport Huayacán, Sportres MX, One Padel Cumbres, and Rafa Nadal Tennis Center Costa Mujeres. They are not a worse choice; early in the morning or at night they are often very pleasant, and some parts of the city get more breeze. You just need to plan the hour and have a plan B for rain.
Why a roof matters so much in Cancún
Cancún is hot and humid almost all year. Between 11 am and 4 pm a court in full sun can feel very heavy even for fit players. A roof cuts the direct sun and makes it possible to play at hours almost nobody books on an open court.
Rain is the other reason. In the rainy season, which usually runs from June to October, short and heavy afternoon downpours are common. On an open court wet turf and glass make the game slippery, and clubs usually stop the slot. On a roofed court, in most cases, play goes on.
In hurricane season, from June to November, no roof replaces common sense: when civil protection issues a warning, clubs close. Check their channels before you leave.
How to book a covered court
Covered courts are the first to fill at peak time, 7 to 10 pm on weekdays, and on rainy afternoons. Some practical tips:
- Book a day or two ahead if you want an evening or weekend slot.
- If the club has both covered and open courts, check which one the booking system gives you; sometimes the court number is the only clue.
- Ask whether the price differs between a covered and an open court, and between off-peak and peak hours. The prices Cancún clubs publish are collected, club by club, on our price page.
- Ask about the rain policy on open courts: whether you are moved to a covered one, given your slot back, or lose it.
Most clubs in Cancún take bookings through an app or WhatsApp. MeetAndPlay does not charge or book at those clubs; it shows each club's page and helps you find people to play with.
What to bring even under a roof
Under a roof there is less sun, but no less humidity. Bring at least a litre of water per hour of play, a spare shirt, a small towel and a spare overgrip, because the racket handle slips with sweat. If you are playing at night on an indoor court, ask whether there are fans; on summer nights they make a difference.
Shoes matter too: padel shoes with a herringbone sole grip the artificial turf better, and in Cancún the turf can be damp even without rain, from the morning condensation.
Find people to play with
Having a court is half the match; the other half is three players at your level. On MeetAndPlay you can see open matches in Cancún and join one, or post your own with the club and the time. If you do not know your level, the padel level test gives you a starting point in a couple of minutes, so the match is even.
And if you want to know when matches open near you, turn on your city's WhatsApp alert at the end of this page.
Frequently asked questions

- On a covered or indoor court, usually yes. On an open court the club usually stops the slot while it rains. With a strong storm or hurricane warning, every club closes.
